A sad day for D&D: Gary Gygax has died

Post copied from Wizard of the Coast's D&D-forum:
quote: Hello All. I wanted to make a single thread where we can all talk about our thoughts and memories of Gary Gygax. We'll be trying our best to merge other threads into this one. We've also created a few special avatars that people may use on our forums to help express their support and sympathy.
The news has come as a bit of a shock to most of us in the WotC office today. While it's hard to imagine anything anyone can say could do this event justice, we've released the following statement:
Today, Wizards of the Coast was deeply saddened to learn that Gary Gygax passed away in his home at age 69. Gygax was a co-creator of the Dungeons & Dragons game. His innovation created an entirely new type of hobby that now attracts millions of players worldwide to face-to-face and online roleplaying games. Gygax was a grand storyteller renowned for his unique style, sprawling "Gygaxian" adventures, and the fantastic World of Greyhawk. He inspired generations of players, designers, and authors, and he will be sorely missed by legions of fans. We extend our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
Thanks, -Mike __________________ Mike Lescault Online Communities Manager Wizards of the Coast

I've never had the chance to meet him myself, but thanks to his creation, I have had so much fun that I doubt I ever would have had, nor the chance to meet so many people over the years.
Here's to you Gary, may your d20s always roll high!!

Lisa Smedman, Forgotten Realms author, has kindly given me permission to offer to one lucky winner a personalized copy of Wizards of the Coast's re-release of Heirs of Prophecy, Book V in the Sembia Series. Although part of a series, it can be enjoyed as a stand alone novel. This would make an excellent holiday gift for that Dungeons and Dragons player in your family, or as an addition to your own novel collection.
The Rules:
1. Open to everyone in the US, Canada, and worldwide.
2. Send an email with your name and address to john [dot] ottinger [at] gmail [dot] com (You will need to remove the words in brackets, of course.) The sending email address needs to be valid, so I can send a reply if you win.
3. Include any personalization you would like in your email.
4. Please enter the contest only once -- multiple entries will be disqualified.
5. The contest will run from today, Thursday November 29 and end Tuesday, December 11, 2007 – 11:59AM EST.
6. On Wednesday, December 12, I will determine a random winner using random.org.
7. No one will get your names and addresses except me, and I won't keep them beyond the last day of the contest.
DISCLAMER: Although we would like the book to arrive in time for your holiday celebration, we cannot guarantee that it will arrive before December 25th. Please be aware that it might arrive sometime after the Christmas holiday, especially with the upsurge in mail traffic at this time of year.

I hope everyone have had a great weekend and are ready to face a new year of roleplaying and the Realms.
I have taken the opportunity to put up a new poll of the month that I hope as many as possible will vote on (no registration needed).
The new poll is Do you prefer one class PCs or multi-class PCs?

The seasons have changed, as has the monthly poll

The new poll is now up, which asks you the following:
Will the release of a 4th ed D&D be bad for the Realms?

I've just added a new poll of the month: Have your PC ever participated in a dragon hunt?

Campaign journals: Useful or waste of time?

How important do you rate a campaign journal? That is the new Poll of the Month. Furthermore, who should keep that journal, the DM or a player/players?
