The beginning of a tale
Two Harpers Meet
Voyage to Tethyr
Lyam Vernimore left his friends in the Shining Spear and found himself in Waterdeep, the City of Splendors. After some short pondering on what to do, he decided to travel to his home of birth, Saradush in Tethyr. He was asked by Takal, a local harper, if he wanted company on his journey. Lyam agreed and they decided to leave as quickly as possible. However, Lyam discovered the problems of traveling in the North during winter (it was early in Hammer, 1366), and Takal advised that the easiest and safest (as safe as possible) was to leave by ship. They rented passage with a wild-hearted (and a bit crazed) captain that was heading for Velen in Tethyr.
They arrived in Velen at the end of Hammer, and from there they traveled by horse to Murann. In Murann they kept a low profile, until the night of Alturiak 6. They encountered a battle between a group of thugs and a well-dressed man. They leapt to the aid of the man, and rescued him from certain death. The man they rescued presented himself as Diego de La Monzanza. He invited the two to his house for dinner the next evening. Lyam and Takal accepted the invitation and felt quite good about themselves.
The next evening they dined very good, and was introduced to Diego´s fiance, Maria. They were asked to stay the night, as the dinner was very long.
During the night, someone entered the building and murdered Maria, leaving a black domino mask at the scene of crime. Lyam and Takal learned from Diego (after they pushed him a bit), that the mask was the symbol of the Shadow Thieves. He also told them that he had no quarrel with that band and thus no clue why they would assassinate his fiance.
Both Lyam and Takal decides to try and find the guilty party and turn him/her to the justice. They disguised themselves (without telling the other part) and goes to the Black Sails tavern in the docks. There they find one suspect being (each other) and tries to gain some information about each other. Only after some talking does Takal recognize Lyam, and in order to gain some respect he knocks Lyam cold (after revealing himself and his plan). He gains some information from the locals, but nothing that helps them in finding the murderers.
When they returned from the Black Sails tavern, they noticed two men watching the house. The Harpers catches the two watchers, but when they are interrogating them, a man appears outside the building and kills the two with magic missiles. He manages to escape with magic. They decide to end the evening and goes back to their inn-rooms. When they have entered their room, someone enters through the window and tries to kill the two Harpers. He tells the two harpers of their crimes and that they can follow quitely or be killed right now. The missunderstanding is explained, and the man introduces himself as Hashak of the Steel, a harper ally. He thanks for the information and says that he will continue to seek Marias murderer.
A few days later, they spot a man looking like the slayer of the watchers. They followed the man to an inn, where they manage to sneak inside the room. There Lyam reads a letter to Dagthal, and he learns that the man is Taorth Samanlynx. Lyam tries to capture the man, but he awakens and manages to escape with magic a second time.
After this they decide to leave Murann before something else happens and travels south towards Mosstone. As they traveled through the Forest of Tethir, they encountered a wandering gate. They chanced the gate and ended up outside a ruined tower amongst overgrown ruins. There they defeated a demi-lichlord, and afterwards Lyam learned that they were in Myth Rynn.
They kept a low profile in Zazesspur, as they learned that Harpers and snoopers are greeted with a dagger in the back. They left the day after, heading closer and closer to Saradush.
They meet a dwarf named Barundar that is seeking a group of slavers, and the two harpers agree to help him find them.
Just outside the Purple Hills they met with a caravan of slaves, and the leader was Lyam´s old enemy Dagthal. After a very short battle, from which Dagthal was whisked away by magic after being near death, Lyam teleported Takal to Athkatla, where Takal would continue to investigate about Maria´s murder. Barundar thanks for the aid, and escorts the freed slaves to the Purple Hills.
Lyam continued his journey home, when he was attacked by Dagthal a few nights later. He was given timely aid by a fellow harper. She introduced herself as Callista Moonrise, ranger by trade.
Callista and Lyam joined forces and continued to Saradush.
They reached Saradush in the middle of Ches, and learned about the savage murders that plagued the city. Lyam met his family and was officially reinstated as a noble of the house Vernimore, as he had a reconciliated with his father. He solved the strange disappearance of his uncle Gaumdas, whom had been gone for over eight years. He was an alchemist, and when his outdoor-laboratory exploded, all traces of the old man was gone. Now Lyam discovered that Gaumdas had turned into an arm-chair. Lyam dispelled the magic, and thus met his eccentric uncle.
Lyam and Callista also solved the brutal murders and brought justice to the murderer, an incredible powerful vampire who posed as rich merchant. They also met the mysterious being known only as the Eternal Wanderer.
When everything was in order again, the two harpers left for Baldur´s Gate by magic.
