Really, really not impressed. What possessed him to do that with orks? Why take a staple of the fantasy genre, that is pretty much consistent throughout and not only change it but make it such a huge part of your new books. I'm not happy |
Jesus Saves, the rest of you take damage. An evil DM is better than a nice DM, you know what to expect from an evil one.

I haven't had a chance to read the Transitions series yet,but I've enjoyed the Hunter's Blades trilogy.
Gotta remember that,in the Realms, there are always exceptions to the rule, and Salvatore is always pointing this out, just look at Drizzt.
In the case of the Orcs,in the Realms, they have been shown to gather together before...it's just that this time they've got a leader that could be considered to be an exception to the rule (although he has been goaded into action and has had a lot of help).I think we'll just really have to wait and see what happens in the end. |

| I totally see you point, after all Salvatore started tho whole evil/good dark elf thing but to my mind this is different, he's not taking one orc and changing him, he's changing a whole race, and IMHO it just doesnt work out |

| Well first of all I have not finished The Orc King yet, I am only about a 1/4 of the way thru but I think Salvatore did an amazing job with what he is doing. At first reading the prelude was also very disapointing to me, but after finishing it and reading Drizzit's diary entry(or whatever you would call it) that follows, I had a very differant opinion. If you take any race of Faerun and confined it to the acts of its predecessors it wouldnt be a very interesting place would it? And if you look at Salvatore's books hes been pushing the bounds of race and religion with most of his books, which is why he is my favorite FR author(not to mention his incredibly detailed fight sequences). Its hard to say too much on this topic without spoiling the book for others who read this post. Im not looking for a debate either, i totaly respect your opinion and felt the same way at first, but after getting further in the book my opinion totaly changed. I think this series would be a great read for anyone who is a fan of FR not just for fans of Drizzit or Salvatore. |

| Salvatore is an amazing author, and reading his books made me want to become one as well. In part, I agree, the Orc King was not the best book, but it has taken the story's plot into a new direction with a completely new idea, and through that, he has done something great. This is a man who has not "changed" the rules, but has pushed them to what we thought was their limits. And in doing so, he showed us that there are very few real limits and those are very fine lines. So all in all... he did an amazing job, and he is still my favorite author. |
